Fraction to Percent

Introduction of Fraction

Sometimes we use fractions and percentages to compare the difference. Fractions tell us about parts of a whole thing, and percentages tell us how many of those parts are out of 100.

So what's a fraction? Think of it as a way to show how many pieces of a whole thing we have. Fractions have a top number (called the numerator) and a bottom number (called the denominator), with a line between them.

The numerator shows how many pieces we have, and the denominator tells us how many pieces make the whole thing. Remember, the denominator can never be zero because you can't have a whole thing with zero pieces!

For example, look at the fraction 1/2. The 1 on top shows we have 1 piece, and the 2 on the bottom says it takes 2 pieces to make a whole.

Introduction of Percent

Percentages tell us how many parts there are out of 100. When we say "percent," we're really saying "per one hundred."

The word "percent" comes from the Latin phrase "per centum," which also means "per hundred." A percentage is a special kind of number that doesn't have any size or measurement – it's just a number!

We use the % sign for percentages, and this sign means "hundredths."

For example, if we have 25%, that means 25 out of 100 or twenty-five hundredths. We can write it like this: 25% = 25/100 = 0.25.

To figure out a percentage, we use a simple formula. It helps us find out how much something is in terms of 100. Here's the formula:

Percentage = (Given value / Total value) x 100

So, if you have 10 apples out of a total of 50, your percentage would be (10 / 50) x 100 = 20%. That means you have 20% of the apples!

Converting Percentage to Number

As we want to change a percentage back into a regular number, we can use the percentage formula to figure out what part of the whole we're looking at based on 100. We can find the fraction of 100 that the number represents. In fact, all the different ways to get percentages can be figured out by simply using this formula:

Percentage = (Value / Total Value) x 100

Changing Fraction to Percent

Now, let's start to learn about changing fractions to percentages. Both fractions and percentages show us parts of a whole thing. To turn a fraction into a percentage, all you need to do is multiply the fraction by 100.

Fractions are numbers that help us understand parts of something. For example, if you have 3/4 of a pizza, that means you have three of the four total pizza slices. Fractions have a top number (called the numerator) and a bottom number (called the denominator).

Now, let's change an example fraction to a percentage. If we have the fraction 2/5 (two-fifths), we can multiply it by 100 like this: (2/5) x 100 = 40%. So, two-fifths is the same as 40%!

Conclusion

In summary, fractions show us parts of a whole thing, while percentages tell us about a number or ratio out of 100. Both fractions and percentages help us understand how something is divided. To change a fraction into a percentage, we multiply the top number (the numerator) by 100, then divide the new number we get by the bottom number (the denominator).
